School Highlights
The following school highlights showcase how White Oak Elementary School is fulfilling Gwinnett County Public School's four strategic priorities of Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. Visit the School Profile Dashboard to find more detailed data on our school.
- White Oak Elementary achieved STEM Recertification through the Georgia Department of Education.
- Over twenty five students participated in the White Oak Science Fair. Our top three winners excelled at the Gwinnett Regional Science, Engineering, and Innovation Fair with one team taking first place in their category.
- White Oak offers students the opportunity to engage in a variety of extracurricular activities with Clubs for All. Clubs for All is held bimonthly during the school day, allowing 100% of students to participate in one extracurricular activity. Sponsored by teachers, staff, and the Mayor of Sugar Hill, a City Council member, and Sugar Hill Marshals, Clubs for All allows students a variety of interest based choice clubs such as video production, photography, Explore Sugar Hill Kindness, and Indian dancing. Clubs for All extends the AKS curriculum and supports Social and Emotional Learning.
- White Oak hosted our first annual 4th vs 5th Grade Flag Football game. The game was coached by the Lanier High School Football Team. We also had the pleasure of having the Lanier High School cheerleaders join us to cheer alongside our students.
- For the thirteenth consecutive year, White Oak received recognition as a No Place for Hate School from the Anti-Defamation League.
- Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is an integral part of the day at White Oak Elementary. To help foster a sense of belonging and connectedness in the classroom, all students engaged in a morning meeting led by their teacher. In addition to morning meetings, teachers lead SEL-specific lessons twice a month that were developed by each grade level to ensure that lessons are timely and appropriate to student-specific needs.
- White Oak partnered with the International Newcomer Center to engage in learning about the many cultures represented in our community. This learning helped our staff to improve communication and enhance learning for our diverse community.
- White Oak’s STEM club, including over 65 students, used design thinking to answer the driving question: How can we use 3D design and printing to solve problems in our community? They initiated an ornament sale to raise money for a larger 3D printer after identifying the limitations of the existing printer. They sold almost 400-holiday ornaments.
- White Oak offers Play to Learn weekly, birth to five programs for parents/caregivers and children. The goal of this program is to teach parents and caregivers how to engage their students in purposeful social and educational activities to help them prepare for kindergarten.
