School Highlights
The following school highlights showcase how Ferguson Elementary School is fulfilling Gwinnett County Public School's four strategic priorities of Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. Visit the School Profile Dashboard to find more detailed data on our school.
- The Dartha B. Ferguson Foundation, founded during the inaugural year and part of the Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation, provided books for the media center, supplies for students, and grants to teachers to support instruction.
-
A total of over 200 students participated in Ferguson school clubs—these before, during, and after-school clubs support academic learning, provide STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) activities, and develop individual student interests and strengths.
-
Ferguson honored and recognized all nationalities. The school culminated heritage celebrations with a parade, classroom learning activities, and International Night.
-
Family Night events—focusing on literacy, math, science, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), and multilingual learners—engaged parents and students in learning and offered parents strategies for supporting student learning at home.
-
Students and families participated in STEAM activities throughout the school building during STEAM Night. This evening, students and families enjoyed a performance by the Ferguson Forte.
-
Ferguson Elementary continued to use Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) to create and maintain a positive school climate. PBIS encourages positive behaviors with recognition for those students who exhibit appropriate school conduct.
-
Students were recognized each week as Mustangs of the Week. Ferguson Mustangs of the Week were role models who exhibited respect for others and were responsible for their learning and behavior.
-
The Play 2 Learn program at Ferguson has grown with each year of implementation. We reached our highest enrollment during the 2022-2023 school year by serving 42 early learners and their parents within two offered classes.
-
Class meetings, and morning meeting routines, were implemented in all K-5 classrooms. Joyful Learning, beginning each school day with a soft, welcoming, collaborative start, was implemented in all kindergarten and first-grade classrooms during the 2022-2023 school year.
-
A Wellness Room was strategically created to prioritize and support staff well-being by promoting self-care activities and mental and physical health.
- Ferguson Elementary School was recognized by the Georgia Department of Education with Operational status for its implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) in the last school year. PBIS encourages positive behaviors with recognition for students who exhibit appropriate school conduct.
