Chesney Elementary School is a STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) -Focused School. Through the lens of STEM, all students engage in rigorous problem and project-based learning experiences every nine weeks, using their knowledge and research to solve real-world problems.

Chesney Elementary School offers its students the opportunity to engage in various extracurricular and club activities, including coding, art, STEM, cooking, cheerleading and dance, gardening, gaming, and intramural sports. More than 60% of students participated in at least one extracurricular activity. At the core of each extracurricular activity is the development of students who "learn and lead like champions."

Chesney Elementary School has an award-winning Robotics Team. For two consecutive years, its Robotics Team has won the Best Robot Design Award. Each team engages in the engineering and design process to create a state-of-the-art robot that can maneuver and accomplish the mission during competition.

Chesney Elementary School is a state-recognized Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) School. In its inaugural year, Chesney's implementation of PBIS has produced leaders and learners who are "Respectful, Responsible, and Ready." Students demonstrating the three R's receive Sparky Bucks for positive behaviors and are recognized at quarterly PBIS events.

Through the tenets of Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Chesney is a school that focuses on the "Whole Child." Students learn how to regulate their emotions, using the zones of regulation and how to engage in mindfulness utilizing breathing techniques. To further assist our students, every classroom has a calm-down corner or a chill zone where students can go to the center and return to learning. Lastly, morning meetings are hosted at the start of each day to connect and check in with each and every student.

Chesney Elementary School is a Trauma-Sensitive School. While focusing on the "Whole Child," Chesney has a culture where all students feel safe, welcomed, and supported. Addressing trauma's impact on learning on a school-wide basis is at the center of its educational mission.

Chesney Elementary School provides opportunities and access for its students to be challenged via rigorous courses such as Math enrichment, Reading enrichment, and Thinking Skills. Such courses afford students the opportunity to employ their creative and critical thinking skills. After participating in these courses, many of these students are referred and evaluated for the gifted and talented program.

Chesney Elementary School has a state-of-the-art music program. Its instrument repertoire mirrors one of a high school, containing but not limited to acoustic guitars, electrical guitars, keyboards, pianos, drums, bongos, and a sound system fit for concert. Through its music program, Chesney's students' voices and musical talents are developed and showcased throughout the school year.

Each and every student at Chesney Elementary gets the opportunity to engage in programming during his or her STEM Special Area course. Students use Scratch Jr., Scratch, and Lego Education to develop a programming language that allows them to design their own interactive stories and games.

Chesney Elementary is a school that goes to great lengths to establish a supportive community for each and every student and parent. For our students, fun and engaging academic nights and Principal's Story Time are regularly held throughout the year. Events such as but not limited to Bring Your Parents to School Day, Principal Town Hall Meetings, Mother-Son and Father-Daughter Dances, Parent-Teacher conferences, and Parent English classes are hosted to ensure a good school-to-home partnership with all families.
