  • Counseling Program

The School Counseling Department is an indispensable part of each school team. Every school in Gwinnett County has at least one counselor. All GCPS counselors are state-certified, highly skilled professionals who possess the minimum of a Master's degree or higher in school counseling. Our purpose is to serve 100% of Gwinnett students in removing barriers to academic success. Our goal is to assist students in developing skills and competencies necessary to complement the academic curriculum and impact a positive school climate. Counselors work in cooperation with parents and teachers to provide programs and services that enhance student academic performance, instill respect for lifelong learning, and heighten career awareness and exploration. Counselors provide crisis intervention and serve as a community liaison.

  • College and Career Services

Providing students with the knowledge and skills to be successful in college and careers is a priority for Gwinnett County Public Schools. The district's K-12 College and Career Framework outlines critical exploration and planning activities for students focusing on college and career opportunities. GCPS high schools have a college and career specialist who functions as an extension of the local school counseling department and has the unique responsibility of focusing on postsecondary exploration and planning. Engaging students in career exploration and college planning builds a sense of hope and optimism about their future.

  • Emergency Response Teams

The goal of GCPS Emergency Response Teams (ERTs) is to provide emotional support to students, faculty, and staff during a crisis event that may interfere with the normal operations of the regular school day. Such crises may include, but are not limited to, the death of a student or school staff member, a natural disaster, or a traumatizing campus event. Trained teams of responders comprised of school counselors, school social workers, and school psychologists provide a more efficient and effective crisis response, which reduces the time required to return to normal school operations.
