GCPS suspends HS Gateway writing assessment for 2021, waives graduation requirement for seniors, previous classes
Due to the ongoing pandemic, GCPS will suspend Gateway testing for the remainder of the 2020–21 school year and waive the test as a graduation requirement for this year’s seniors. The district’s High School Gateway writing assessments measure students’ ability to write effectively about Gwinnett’s Academic Knowledge and Skills curriculum in the areas of Biology, Chemistry, and U.S. History. Students must pass High School Gateway Writing Assessments in both science and social studies to graduate with a GCPS diploma. However, with the suspension of testing, the district will waive this graduation requirement for seniors in the Class of 2021.
The waiver also has been extended to students in prior graduating classes who have met all other graduation requirements except passing the High School Gateway. The process followed depends on the year the student would have graduated:
- Students who would have graduated in 2019 should contact their home school to request an amended transcript.
- Students who would have graduated in 2018 or prior should complete a records request form on the GCPS website to request an amended transcript.
