School Highlights
The following school highlights showcase how Maxwell High School of Technology is fulfilling Gwinnett County Public School's four strategic priorities of Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. Visit the School Profile Dashboard to find more detailed data on our school.
- Our Auto Collision and Auto Services programs held a Career Fair in the spring with 25 local businesses represented. Many students were offered jobs that day.
- Our Early Childhood Education (ECE) program and our Welding program renewed their industry certification status through the state of Georgia. The ECE program is the first program in the state to earn the status of a "distinguished" industry certified program.
- Our HOSA student organization, which focuses on future health professionals, continues to be strong. Our Anataomage Team won the state championship by beating 70 other teams. They competed for the national championship in Texas and finished 9th in the nation.
- Our Manufacturing program is a NASA HUNCH Finalist. The NASA HUNCH program allows students’ access to project-based learning opportunities using real world valued products for NASA. Our students presented to NASA representatives design and prototype projects for a final design review. Maxwell had two national finalist teams chosen from that review. Those students went to NASA in Houston, Texas where they worked directly with NASA personnel, engineers, and astronauts to review their projects.
- Our Counseling Department held a school wide college and career, and military fair. Over 30 businesses and military branches were represented, and all students got to meet with the organizations.
- Our SkillsUSA members competed in the state championships in Atlanta in the spring. We had a Maxwell record of 79 students compete for a state championship, and 50 students medaled. We had 22 state champions, 10 second place finishers, and 18 third place finishers. Our state champions competed for a national championship this summer.
- Jennifer Pacheo is a second-year student and intern at Maxwell in our Culinary Arts program. She was named Georgia Restaurant Association’s Prostart Student of the year and was featured in the Atlanta Journal Constitution as well as Georgia Restaurant Association’s official magazine and awarded $4,000 in scholarship money.
- Our Culinary Arts ProStart Management team placed 1st at state in the Prostart management competition where they were invited to compete for a national championship in Washington D.C.
- We had five students compete in the Georgia High School Aviation Challenge hosted by the Transportation Education Foundation of Georgia (TEFGA). Maxwell finished in both first and second place.
- The Automotive Services program received Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) accreditation by the ASE Education Foundation. Maxwell’s automotive program has been accredited at the Automotive Service Technology level. This accreditation is an advanced level for Entry-Level training programs.
