School Highlights
The following school highlights showcase how R.D. Head Elementary School is fulfilling Gwinnett County Public School's four strategic priorities of Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. Visit the School Profile Dashboard to find more detailed data on our school.
- Twenty-nine students joined our first-ever Jr. Beta Club based on their high academic achievements and leadership qualities.
- Head Elementary chorus students had multiple successful performances, including shows at the Atlanta Gladiators game, a special school Veterans Day program, and our annual holiday concert. Our Bronco Drummers also performed at our school Talent Show, Taste of Lilburn community event, and the Lilburn Farmers Market.
- Our art program produced two kindergarten artists who had work selected for the county art show. Head Elementary artists were also showcased at our local art show, the Brookwood Cluster art show, and the district tapestry show.
- Our media program is very strong. As a school, our students read over 152 million words from August to May. Over 50 students made it into the One Million Word Club. We held our first annual Battle of the Books Competition with almost 100 students participating.
- Head Elementary received the 2022 Green and Healthy Schools Achievement Award for our environmental education program. Our grant from Captain Planet Foundation was renewed for use in our school garden.
- The First Lego League Robotics Team won the Champions Award (highest award) at the Regional Tournament and made it to the next level, the Super-Regional Tournament.
- The Kindness Club gave back to the community through activities such as gifts and visits for veterans in nursing homes as well as treats for our local fire station, Station 22.
- This year, Head hosted the first All Pro Dads Program which was a huge success. More than 100 caregivers and their children participated in the this program six times during the school year.
- Head Elementary hosted the Brookwood Cluster Witzzle Pro Tournament for students who love and excel at math. A Head student placed 2nd in the entire cluster.
- Walton EMC and Brookwood Schools Foundation provided several grants to our school: funding for a large purchase of non-fiction books, Rec Trek equipment, books to support Asian American and Pacific Islander month, a new PA system, a bee bot mat for Computer Science, and more.
