Beyond the Classroom

  • B.E.S.T CLUB
    Bringing Exceptional Students Together  Club

This club is open to students with and without special needs. The purpose of the club is to provide social activities so that our students with special needs have time and space to develop friendships with their general education peers. The club meets once a month. Activities include attending BHS Sporting events, after-school get-togethers, holiday parties, karaoke, etc.

    Special Olympics

Brookwood's students participate in Special Olympics events. Our Broncos have proudly and happily brought home several medals and lots of smiles over the years.

    Awards/Distinctions

BHS Special Education Dept. has the 2nd highest graduation rate for Students with Disabilities within Gwinnett Co. Public Schools.

About our Department

  • The Brookwood High School Special Education Department is one of the largest special education departments in the Gwinnett County Public School System.

We are the largest department within the school with 40 teachers & 21 paraprofessionals. We serve approximately 380 students: approximately 300 students through our Resource Program and approximately 80 through our Self-Contained Program.

Every student is assigned to a case manager upon entering high school. The case manager is an advocate for your student within the school. He/she will be a contact person and a resource for you as well. The case manager will schedule and hold annual Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and 3 year re-evaluations as well as monitor progress on IEP goals/objectives and grades. The Special Education Dept. supports students in content area classes that are required for graduation via Co-taught level class, Resource level classes, or in the self-Contained environment.

We offer a variety of programs:

    · Specific Learning Disabilities
    · Other Health Impaired
