Testing
-
All GCPS students participate in a variety of district, state, and national assessments. The assessments an individual student takes are dependent on the student's grade level and programmatic needs.
Milestone Testing
-
What is Milestone Testing?
The Milestone EOG (End of Grade) is administered to 3rd - 8th grade students each spring. All grades will take English? Language Arts and Mathematics Assessments. Eighth graders also take assessments in Science and Social Studies. The result of these tests provide information about the student's readiness for the next grade level.
The Milestones EOC (End of Course) tests are administered at the end of EOC courses. This provides information about the student's achievement in the course.
Why is my child taking this assessment?
These are state required assessments. For EOCs, the test serves as a final exam and contributes to a percentage of the student's final grade in the course.

District Assessment
-
District Assessments are a part of Gwinnett County Public School’s Balanced Assessment System. They are developed to align to the Academic, Knowledge, and Skills (AKS) and GCPS instructional calendars in the areas of language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies and are a blend of both formative and summative assessments administered at the classroom level to measure student learning of the AKS. These assessments allow students to demonstrate what they know, understand, and are able to do and help teachers determine whether students are performing as expected or need additional support to be successful.
Administration of required District Assessments, Interim/Midyear/1st and 2nd Semester Finals/End of Year Assessments, occur once every quarter at the 9-, 18-, 27-, and 36-week marks and require a maximum of one class period to complete.
The data from the assessments provide teachers, students, parents, and other stakeholders with information regarding student learning. Students are encouraged to review their assessment results and teacher feedback to help improve their learning. Teachers use the data during planning and refining of instruction to identify the need for remediation and extension activities for students. District leaders use the data to provide instructional support for teachers to help improve student achievement.
What is this assessment?
District Assessments are administered each nine weeks to measure student learning of the Academic, Knowledge, and Skills (AKS) in language arts and mathematics 1st through 11th grades and science and social studies in 3rd through 11th grades.
Why is my child taking this assessment?
District Assessments are designed to support teachers in designing instruction based on individualized student data to support the diverse students served.
The data from the District Assessments provides students and parents with information regarding student learning.

During the 2022-2023 school year, the district developed a multi-year implementation plan that will begin with field testing in 6th and 10th grades in the 2023-2024 school year. Once fully implemented, GCPS will administer a summative writing assessment to students in grades 3rd-7th as well as in 9th and 10th grades, and we will provide formative writing resources and prompts to support teachers’ inclusion into instructional lessons.
