Mission:

To give students an opportunity to learn and utilize skills associated with televising a live news show.

Planned Activities:

The Broadcast Club will plan and implement all activities required to televise our live Hawkeye News Show each week: finding stories of interest, filming or photographing various school activities, writing a script, editing videos and photographs, working with teams of students who will be the live talent each week, and operating the various equipment required to make the live show possible.

Student Requirements:

Interested students must fill out an application and request three teachers to complete recommendations (using teachers who have known the students more than two to three weeks). Interested students must have adequate communication and literacy skills. Applications must be returned to the sponsor in the required time frame (at the beginning of the school year). The Broadcast Club will be limited to no more than fifteen members selected from all applicants by a committee of teachers. Students will be expected to attend all meetings, which will take place Wednesday and Friday mornings unless otherwise announced. Students will have to provide their own transportation.

Permission Forms:

Parents must complete a permission form when students apply to participate in the Broadcast Club. Club members’ parents must also complete a video release form for the school year in which their child will participate in the Broadcast Club.

Cost:

The price of a t-shirt (if the club chooses one), not to exceed $25.
