WHERE IS THE PLAN AVAILABLE?
The Family and Community Engagement Plan and all other Title I information are available on our school’s website under the Parents/ Students tab and then Parent Center/Title I section. Families can also find paper copies of this Family and Community Engagement Plan in our Family Engagement Center.

HOW IS THE PLAN DEVELOPED AND REVISED?
It is reviewed and revised at least annually during the Planning Meeting in the spring. All feedback forms from the Planning Meeting are submitted to the Office of Federal Programs for review. Families who are not able to attend the Planning Meeting have the opportunity to review draft documents and provide input during the draft document review period May 1 – May 10.

COMMUNICATION
We use family-friendly language and format when communicating with our parents. We eliminate the use of jargon, abbreviations, and acronyms; when possible, we use a shorter form of our agendas for out Title l meetings.

- Increase our graduation rate to 90%
- Perform at or above both state and GCPS averages on district and/or state assessments
- Increasing students' academic knowledge and skills for college and career readiness, including a focus on completing Career Pathways, earning college credits, developing professional skills, and increasing citizenship and civic engagement.

WHAT IS A SCHOOL-FAMILY PROMISE?
It is a written agreement that outlines how the school, the students, and the family will work together to ensure your child’s academic success. An effective School-Family Promise contains the following elements:
- Clear learning goals that are linked to the school’s improvement plan
- Specific skills students will learn during the year
- Strategies that staff, families, and students will use to improve student learning.
- Ways to extend learning at home.
- Methods teachers and family members will use to communicate about student progress.
- Opportunities for family members to observe and participate in the classroom.
- Jointly-developed by families, school staff, students, community business partners, and other stakeholders during our Planning Meeting
- Reviewed and revised throughout the year

WORKING TOGETHER TO ENSURE SUCCESS
Discovery HS will…
- Conduct parent informational sessions and/or workshops to support parents in preparing their students to interpret documents and use prior learning and information included in documents to explain a situation or process and how to support an argument or claim.
- Teach parents to locate materials on eCLASS to help their students successfully navigate and utilize the digital platform.
- Utilize Quality-Plus Teaching Strategies and best practices to develop and implement well-developed lessons, remediation, and enrichment opportunities.

As Students, we will…
- Work with our teachers and families to demonstrate mastery of interpreting documents and text to connect proper learning and explain a situation or process or support an argument or claim.
- Utilize eCLASS and other educational resources on a daily basis to be academically successful in all areas.
- Visit teachers' web pages to locate content tasks, practice, and assessments, as well as implement instructional strategies to help prepare for mastery in all content areas.
As Families, we will…
- Attend workshops to learn strategies to support their students at home by preparing them to write well composed constructed responses that use evidence.
- Work with their student to locate and use exercises from eCLASS and other resources at home to improve writing skills.
Visit teachers’ web pages to locate content specific exercises to use with their students .

LET'S TALK
Parents will have the opportunity to meet with teachers during the school-wide Parent-Teacher conferences, which will take place at the end of the first 9 weeks and the 3rd 9 weeks of school. Parents can also request teacher conferences throughout the school year by contacting the counseling office at 678-226-4247. Parents will receive just in time information through our weekly parent newsletter on-line and frequent communication via email.

DID YOU KNOW?
- Title I is a federal program designed to support school reform efforts to improve teaching and learning for all students.
- Title I programs are based on effective means of improving student achievement and include strategies to support family engagement.
- The Title I Office reserves at least one percent of the district’s allocation to fund family and community engagement programs. The use of these funds is based on suggestions gathered at our spring Planning Meetings from families and community members. Funds are distributed equally to all our Title I schools.
- Childcare and/or transportation may be provided for meetings and school events.

VISIT OUR FAMILY ENGAGEMENT CENTER
Our Family Engagement Center has learning games, books, and many other resources available for families to checkout and use at home. Our Parent Outreach Liaison is Diana Bregeth. She is available to help you find resources, navigate the Parent Portal, connect with teachers, and learn about ways you can help your children at home.
Our Family Engagement Center is located in the 100 hall across from the Counseling Office/Career Computer Lab..
