• Community Service is a big part of Lovin’s culture.  Lovin donates salads and eggs to needy families in our community.  We also have a “Little Free Library” for the community. Many grade levels participate in community service projects as well.  First grade collects items for the animal shelter, second grade has a park clean up day, and third grade collects plastics all year for Trex. We would not be able to do all of our STEM initiatives without our supportive business partners.  Some are:  Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful, Food Well Alliance, UGA Extension, Gwinnett County Sherriff’s Department, Mercer, Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources, etc.

Community Service and STEM Collaboration with Archer High School

Mr. Stoker and his architectural design students from Archer High School were gracious enough to plan, design, and build our new walk-in chicken coop for us. Mr. Stoker came over to Lovin and met with Second Grade to gather information on what we wanted. (Our original coop was a decent one, but the chickens needed more room to run, and we could not get inside to clean- - we really wanted one we could walk in.)  The Archer students had to figure out the materials list and amount of supplies needed.  When they were at Lovin for the build in May, the second graders came out and interviewed the Archer students about how they used math to build the coop.

We had five chickens at the time, and we now have expanded to nine!  This year we hope to work with Mr. Stoker and his students to build a compost bin for our garden.  Please see the attached document that explains how we tie the chickens into our AKS and our Community Service. We also donated a few dozen eggs to Ms. Emmons to use in her class at Archer High School for when they learned how to cook eggs all different ways.
