What's Happening in the Media Center?

Book Fair

  • We just closed out our last book fair of the school year!  We love the book fair!  All book fair profits go directly to our Media Center program.  Profits from previous book fairs were used to purchase some new furniture for the Media Center.  We purchased 12 collaborative desks.  We have 12 individual desks that can be pushed together to create a circle.  This allows students to work in collaborative groups more easily.  Our students LOVE these new desks!

We have also created a new area in the Media Center using our profits, specifically, from the fall book fair.  We have created a sensory corner.  This area was designed for our children with sensory needs in mind, but is available and beneficial for all of our students.  We have a "relaxation corner" made up of cushioned blocks at varying heights.  We purchased several different fabrics with different textures and colors to create a sensory board.  Reading cubbies were also purchased so that students can curl up inside the cubby to read.  We've received all the materials for a lego wall and will be putting it together as soon as possible.  There is also a light table in our sensory corner!

We're very excited for students to begin using this area!

Read Across America Day

  • We celebrated Read Across America Day on March 1st by having guest readers in all of our classrooms.  Business partners, our cluster School Resource Officers, school support staff, volunteer organizations, GCPS district office staff, and former Lovin teachers came to share the love of reading with our students.  Each classroom had a guest reader who came with several books!  During their Tiger Time, classes heard stories read aloud and also got to know some of these amazing volunteers who joined us for the day.  Here are some pictures of the fun from the day!

February Book Club for Second Grade

  • February was second grade's turn for our monthly book club!  Students who chose to participate in book club, chose a book from the Dory Fantasmagory book series.  These students read their chosen book on their own.  They came during their lunch on March 5th to talk about their books with each other and do some fun "Dory" activities.  Much fun was had by all!
