If your student is looking for enrichment or remediation, then we have a One Stop Shop for you!
Our first recommendation will take you back to the days of elementary school: MANDATORY READING EVERY NIGHT! We suggest that your student reads 20-30 minutes a night. We read 10 minutes in every LA class almost daily. In fact, look at what the extra 20-30 minutes a night can do:
But it's not just how long you read; it's what you read. If students are reluctant readers, then, yes, just get a book in their hands! However, if they want to become a better reader, they need a book that challenges their reading level and makes them struggle a little but not to the point of frustration! PDS students know their Lexile score: ONE score that informs them about their reading abilities. They can use this to find books that challenge them using Lexile.com or our school catalog called Destiny.
However, we know that our course has many other standards that must be mastered: Writing and Language specifically!
Each PDS student has a login to these sites as well. They can practice as much as they want! Many of these practices (which we all assign for our Flex Fridays) could be used for replacement scores on other practices we assign.

The point is to increase their mastery of our standards!
Thank you for checking in and your willingness to continue the practice of these very important LITERACY skills at home. These skills transcend our LA classrooms and aid students in all other disciplines!
