K-3 will meet live from 9:00 - 2:30 with breaks for lunch and recess.  Students will also need to complete 30 minutes of independent reading and 30 minutes in math using specific assigned applications.  There is flexibility on the time for students to complete this independent work.  Parents can choose to begin the day at 8:00 doing both reading and math before the live sessions, or split the sessions between the morning and afternoon.  They also could choose to do the sessions in the afternoon rather than the morning.  It is important that these sessions are completed on a daily basis so that students do not get behind in these programs.
Attendance is required daily for K-3 because of the live sessions.  Sessions are not recorded, so students who are not present will miss the instruction that day just like they would in a regular in-person classroom.

  • Melissa MurphyGwinnett Online Campus offers grades 4th and 5th in our Elementary School. GOC uses a hybrid approach to teach our elementary aged students, combining required Main Live Sessions one morning per week along with online lessons which students complete independently. In addition, teachers hold live sessions on two other mornings per week to provide support for students who need additional help. All students are welcome to join the additional live sessions. If students need additional support for success, a student may be required to attend live sessions in specific subjects. The online lessons are delivered through our learning platform Desire2Learn.

    Class Schedules

The general time frames for the Main Virtual Sessions along with the additional Live Virtual Sessions are available HERE. The Main Virtual Sessions are required each week. During the days that students do not have scheduled class sessions, students should expect to spend between 45 and 60 minutes in each core content class (language arts, math, science, social studies) each day. Students will also have Connection Classes in Health & PE, and Art (1 semester) or Computer Science (1 semester). It will take students about 1 - 2 hours per week to complete the requirements for these classes.

At the beginning of the school year, 4th & 5th grade teachers will be meeting live each morning Monday-Thursday for the first three weeks of school to help students learn how to be successful in completing the online lessons.
