The Science Department's goal is to promote science literacy through differentiated instruction. Using the framework of the Gwinnett County Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS), teachers work collaboratively to create lessons integrating science concepts applicable to daily life. Students experience rigorous instruction which builds processing skills, problem-solving skills, cooperative group participation, and critical thinking skills. The Science Department is multi-disciplinary in structure, offering required courses in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, as well as elective courses, such as Anatomy, Astronomy, and Forensics. Many of the required courses for graduation are offered in college preparatory, honors, and gifted levels. Advanced Placement (AP) courses for college credit are currently offered in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
