Titans Bulletin from Mr. Patino
November 15, 2024
Cedar Hill Parents and Families,
I hope everyone has had a very good week. We are winding down to our Thanksgiving Break and with one week to go, I wanted to reaffirm a few items:Better Attendance From a year Ago:Great job parents for making sure that your students are attending school. The improvements are slight, but they are showing up as successes in our school testing data!!! If the students are in the building, that gives us a better chance at teaching our students . . .
11/6/2023
5 or more absences: 126 students (13.63%)
10 or more absences: 20 students (2.16%)
10% or more absences (chronically absent): 2 students (0.22%)
11/4/2024
5 or more absences: 86 students (9.47%)
10 or more absences: 13 students (1.43%)
10% or more absences (chronically absent): 2 students (0.22%)
The Difference Between 7:40 am and 8:15 Arrival:While classes do not officially being until 8:15 (when the tardy bell rings), our teachers begin working with students as early as 7:40 am (when teh first bell rings). Teachers might be doing different things with your students:
1. Giving students work that they know they need for understanding
2. Giving students work that they are missing and need to make up
3. Giving students work where they can improve a low grade
4. Having the students work on iReady
5. Having the students work on Imagine Learning
So while a student is not late until 8:15 am, we would love to have them in the building as early as possible in order to begin working with them and probably most importantly, giving them an opportunity to work slowly towards getting ready for the school day.School Events:
Please keep an eye out for all of the events that we are having. We just had our STEM night last night, and a couple of Fridays ago we have All Pro Dad meeting on a Friday morning. Looking ahead, we have teh following:
Principal Story Time on Tuesday, November 19
The students have the Turkey Trot on Friday, November 22
Chorus Concert on Thursday December, 19Student Makeups and Improving Grades:
Over the last two week I have shared the importance of students advocating for their grades and the makeup of their grades. Your student's teacher posted their progress report last Friday; this should have given you an indication of where your student is academically. I would consider following the steps I shared the last two week to achieve grade completion if grades are low or incomplete:
1. Write down what still needs to be completed
2. Speak with teachers to find our what can be completed
3. Make the time to complete and makeup assignments
4. Turn in all the left over work
I hope we can help our students recognize the value of advocating for themselves and being aware of the things that affect them and how to address those concerns.
Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns . . .
Thank You For All You Do,
Tony PatinoUpcoming Important Dates:Tuesday, November 19 Principal Story Time 6 pm - 7:00 pm
