SUMMIT FAQs
Will being in the SUMMIT program limit my number of electives?
No, SUMMIT will not take up an elective class. You will still choose two electives of your choice each year.
Will being in the SUMMIT program affect my ability to take future dual enrollment classes?
No, SUMMIT will not affect your ability to take future dual enrollment classes. You always have the option to take two electives and social studies is not part of the core cohort (many students take dual enrollment classes in Social Studies their junior and senior year). You also have extra flexibility your senior year and will have many options to choose from for your schedule if you pursue dual enrollment.
Will being in the SUMMIT program affect my ability to take future classes at Grayson or Maxwell?
No, SUMMIT will not affect your ability to choose this option as a Senior. Senior classes have more space in their schedule and the option to choose core classes. Since Grayson and Maxwell typically replaced three class periods, this would not be possible Junior year.
What is the main difference in how my schedule would look compared to my classmates not in the SUMMIT program?
The biggest difference is that your language arts class will be part of your engineering class for an extended class period. You will take seven classes instead of six with language arts being combined with engineering. A lot of the reading and writing content for language arts will be about engineering. Your core classes will include cross-curricular projects where we use ideas from several classes and engineering to plan, model, build, and present a project collaboratively. You will participate in fun and exciting projects and leadership roles in your Summit classes.
If I am in the SUMMIT program will I still have classes with my classmates that are not in the SUMMIT program?
Yes! In the SUMMIT program, you will take core classes with others in your SUMMIT Cohort. Core classes like language arts, math, science, and engineering will all be SUMMIT specific classes. Other classes like social studies and electives will be the same class offerings as all other MVHS students.
