Josh Lovelady was named the 2nd Head Coach for Mill Creek in January of 2019 after serving for 15 seasons as the offensive line coach/offensive coordinator for the Hawks.  Coach Lovelady played high school football at South Gwinnett from 1989-1991 and then played at West Georgia from 1991-1994.  While at West Georgia, Coach Lovelady was a four year starter while playing both on the offensive and defensive line and made the All-Gulf Coast Conference Team his senior year.  He also made the All-Gulf Coast Conference Academic Team for three years and won the Student-Athlete Award for the highest G.P.A.

Coach Lovelady began his coaching career at East Coweta High School, coaching under Danny Cronic.  He coached their defensive line and tight ends from 1996-2000.  While he was at East Coweta the Indians made the playoffs in 1997, 1998, and 1999 and won their region championship in 1998.  Coach Lovelady also was an assistant wrestling coach from 1996-1998 and an assistant track coach from 1996-2000.

In the spring of 2000 Coach Lovelady returned to his Alma Mater and served as an assistant to the legendary T. McFerrin. He served as a defensive line coach in 2000, offensive and defensive line coach from 2001-2004, and offensive coordinator for the running game in 2003-2004.  While he was at South Gwinnett the Comets made the playoffs in 2001, 2002, and 2003 and won its region championship in 2003.  Coach Lovelady also served as the Head track and field coach for South Gwinnett from 2001-2004.

In the fall of 2004 Coach Lovelady came to Mill Creek as a member of a staff working for Head Coach Shannon Jarvis.  Coach Lovelady and Coach Jarvis had worked together at South Gwinnett on Coach McFerrin’s staff and shared the same vision for Mill Creek.  He has been the offensive line coach, offensive coordinator and assistant head coach for the 15 years he has been at Mill Creek.  His offensive line has become known for their physical style of play and offensive firepower.  The Hawks made the playoffs for the first time in 2007, made it to the quarterfinals in 2010 and 2012, and have made the playoffs every season since 2014.  In 2015 and 2016 the Hawks went undefeated in the regular season and won the region championship.  In 2015 they averaged 37.1 points per game and in 2016 the Hawks averaged 39.4 points per game.  In 2017 and 2018 the Hawks had 1,000 yard rushers in back-to-back seasons for the first time.  Mill Creek’s overall record since 2004 is 102-68, but since the first graduating class in 2007, the Hawks are 94-46. They have not had a losing season since the 2006 season and have made the playoffs five consecutive seasons.

While at Mill Creek, Coach Lovelady has also coached track and field, primarily coaching the shot put and discus.  He was a member of the 2013 squad that won the State Championship. He and his wife, Shannan, have three children: a daughter, Ruby Reese, and two sons, Cole and Tate.
