What is the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica?
The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish and Portuguese and is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.
The purpose of the society is to recognize high achievement of high school students in the Spanish and Portuguese languages and to promote a continuing interest in Hispanic and Portuguese studies.
Any secondary school student who has maintained an honor average in the study of Spanish or Portuguese for a minimum of three semesters and is in the 10th grade or higher is eligible. Definition of "honor grade" is left to the discretion of the individual sponsor but it should be remembered that the SHH is an honor society for those students of high academic achievement.

Members will be chosen in October of each school year.
Qualifications for Membership

Section 1. To be eligible for the Society, students must meet all the following criteria.

1. Student must be actively enrolled in a Spanish class.
2. Student must be enrolled in the 3rd year of Spanish or higher.
3. Transfer students must have spent one full semester in the program before eligibility.
4. Student must have an A-average in all Spanish classes.
5. Student must have a B – average overall.
6. Student must never have failed a class due to attendance.
7. Consideration must be given to integrity, honor, responsibility, interest, character, leadership, seriousness of purpose and commitment to others.
8. Student must have participated in the National Spanish Exam at least one time if opportunity was given at school.

Section 2. A Spanish teacher will nominate eligible students.
