Math Honor Society

  • About Us

Purpose: To promote scholarship in mathematics and service to the community. The Mill Creek chapter of Mu Alpha Theta is part of the National Math Honor Society.

Dues: $30.00 per year due by mid-September for current and new members. This fee includes National membership fees, t-shirt, cords for seniors, and our celebrations. Do not pay dues until you are verified to be eligible by Mrs. Vasquez (see below).

    Eligibility Requirements

    • Grade Level – The student must be currently in precalculus or higher.
    • Grades – The student must have at least a 90 average in all math classes on record. The student is responsible for verifying grades with a sponsor at the beginning of each semester.
    • Attendance at meetings – In order to maintain membership in Mu Alpha Theta, members may have no more than ONE unexcused absence from a meeting per school year, or your membership may be revoked. If you miss a meeting, you will be responsible for reading the Google Classroom with the information you missed and will need 1 additional service hour per meeting missed.
    • Service – All members: At least twenty hours with a minimum of 10 being math activity hours (doing something that promotes math or the math department at Mill Creek, like tutoring, service to a math teacher) are required. Participating in Mill Creek’s Math Team counts as 10 non-math hours for the whole school year. You do not have to complete all 20 hours in Fall Semester. We have several spring activities and want full member attendance.

        • Seniors: All 20 hours (including makeup meeting hours) must be completed by Thursday, March 14th Pi Day for seniors.

        • Sophomores and Juniors: All other members must complete 20 hours (including makeup meeting hours) by Tuesday, April 30th.

MEMBERSHIPIf you wish to be considered as an active member (either a new or returning member) for the 2023-24 school year, please fill out the application.
Then, go to studentVUE on your device to take a screenshot of your math course history. You will email this with the title “MAO LastName, FirstName” to Mrs. Vasquez at anna.vasquez@gcpsk12.org before the first meeting on Monday, August 28th. Do not pay dues until you have received an email approving you. We will not refund dues paid for a student who ended up not getting accepted into the club.
