Hello, my name is Natasha Patterson; this is my 20th year in education and my 13th year as a school counselor. I graduated from Georgia State University with a Master’s degree in School Counseling and an Educational Specialist degree in Professional Counseling from the University of West Georgia. Before school counseling, I was a classroom teacher for 7 years. I have two children; a son in college and a daughter who is a senior in high school. This is my third year in Gwinnett County Public Schools, and I am so excited to join an amazing team of professionals at Britt Elementary!
Core Values & Philosophy
Our Counseling Program vision and mission are aligned with Gwinnett County Public Schools’ Office of Advisement & Counseling, Britt Elementary School, and The American School Counseling Association (ASCA) National Model.
W. C. Britt Elementary School’s counseling program will empower ALL students to achieve personal success, where students acquire the academic knowledge, skills, and behavior to be successful in school and in life while respecting the differences and abilities of others.
The mission of W. C. Britt Elementary School’s counseling program is to develop deep levels of relationships, respect, and rigor (3 R’s) to pursue excellence in academic knowledge, skills, and behavior for each student resulting in measured improvement against local, national, and world-class standards.
To achieve our mission, the Britt counselor works in cooperation with parents, students, and teachers to provide programs and services that enhance student academic performance, instill respect for lifelong learning, and heighten career awareness and exploration.
Counseling Philosophy
“Supporting Success of the Whole Child”
As the school counselor at Britt Elementary, I believe all students can learn and exhibit qualities of good character and resilient problem solving, as well as utilize their individual abilities and talents to master and apply skills to become college and/or career ready. Britt’s Elementary School Counseling Program infuses 3 components to cultivate this philosophy: ASCA Mindset & Behaviors, CASEL Social Emotional Learning and Gwinnett County Public Schools QPTS.
The Britt School Counseling program is an integral part of students' daily educational environment. We use ASCA’s Mindset & Behaviors standards to guide the planning and delivery of activities and interventions. These outcomes include: increased academic achievement, improved attendance, social-behavioral skill development, individual planning and family/community involvement.
We believe positive outcomes in student behavior and learning can only be achieved through a combination of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and Quality-Plus Teaching Strategies. Students acquire the skills needed at school, at home and in their community to:
- Identify and manage emotions
- Develop care and concern for others
- Establish positive relationships
- Make responsible decisions
- Handle challenging situations effectively
