• Attendance

School attendance significantly impacts a child’s early development, socialization, and academic performance of other students. Children begin to learn how to socialize with others, follow directions and problem solve while at school. If a child is not part of the school environment, some of these skills cannot be practiced. When a child is chronically absent from school, he/she falls behind in classwork and requires extra time and attention from the teacher to catch up. This draws the teacher away from other students in the class who may also need assistance. The responsibility of school attendance is that of both parents and students. By state law, attendance in a public school, private school, or home school program is required for children between their sixth and sixteenth birthdays.
