• Burnette ES Media Center Mission & Vision

Mission

  • Encouraging students to develop a love of reading and become lifelong learners.  Providing a safe space to dream, experiment, learn, and discover.

Vision

  • The Burnette Media Center will be the hub of learning at BES.  We will provide a warm and welcoming environment where students can access a wide variety of diverse books in multiple formats.  We will provide a variety of materials for students to pursue knowledge, share that knowledge, and explore technology and engineering.

Self Selected Reading

  • Self selected, independent reading is vital if we want our children to love reading.  In the Scholastic Kids & Family Reading Report: Fifth Edition , 91 percent of children ages 6-17 agree that “my favorite books are the ones that I have picked out myself.”  Encouraging our children to read what they love and read for fun is the most important job we can do if we want them to be lifelong readers.

Digital Citizenship

  • Our children are growing up in a world surrounded by technology.  Most of our students use technology on a regular basis.  At Burnette, we are committed to helping our students learn digital citizenship skills in order to learn, communicate, and collaborate safely and responsibly.  Digital citizenship skills are taught in our computer science specials and during research lessons in the media center.
