GHSA State Track & Field Championships this upcoming week at McEachern HS. We are proud of all of our athletes that competed at Sectionals this past weekend and look forward to bringing home some Individual State Champions this week. Senior Nigel Hussey was also awarded with the Region 4-AAAAAAA Runner of the Year Award. In addition, listed below are the All-Region Track Performers from South.

Overall, 9 athletes qualified for Sectionals yesterday to go with the 7 that qualified on Tuesday. 16 South Athletes will travel to West Forsyth next Saturday to compete for an opportunity to run at the State Championships. Below are some highlights from yesterday. We finished the Meet with 4 Individual Region Championships and 1 Region Relay Championship (Triple Jump, 100m, 200m, 400m and the 4x400m Relay).

Girls 4x100 Relay – (Daijah Brazil, Autumn Sweet, Jordyn Sims, Taylor Chivas) – Sectional Qualifiers

Girls 400m – Ne’Yonnah Davis – 3rd Place – Sectional Qualifier

Our South Track Program started the two-day Region Meet on a high note this afternoon at Parkview. Below is a recap of our placers and Sectional Meet Qualifiers. Please come out Thursday and support all our team as the running event finals take place at Parkview starting at 4:30. Today we finished with 7 Sectional Qualifiers and look to add a lot more on Thursday. Please congratulate these athletes if you see them in person or on Zoom, they work extremely hard.
William Embrey (9th grade) – REGION CHAMPION in the Triple Jump (42’3.75) New PR
Kylen Thorps (10th grade) – Sectional Qualifier 4th Place Finish in the Long Jump (20’10”) New PR
Ethan Ramos (11th grade) – Sectional Qualifier 4th Place Finish in the Discus (125’1”) New PR
Boys 4x800 meter Team (Jeffrey McFarland, Kylen Thorps, William Embrey, Jaylen Lawson) – Sectional Qualifier 3rd Place Finish (8:36.97) New PR by 10 seconds
