Student Intervention Center (SIC)
Students may receive support from the Student Intervention Center for a number of reasons:
-
The primary focus is Tier 1 behavioral interventions.
-
Short-term Behavior Reset: This could be for a class period(s) or lunch. Students receive behavioral support through restorative conversations to help them return to class in a positive, productive way.
-
Positive Behavior Recognition: Acknowledging improvements in students' behavioral decision-making is a critical piece for establishing appropriate school-going patterns.
-
Academic Support: Students may be in the SIC to complete work and/or to build out strategies to support learning.
-
In-School Suspension: ISS could be for one or multiple days and is a response to a behavior violation. Students receive restorative support, develop an action plan for improving behavior, and complete a Navigate 360 module. The student may/may not work with the ISS Interventionist.

Interventionists
These teachers work with their assigned groups to build appropriate school behavioral strategies. This is done through meaningful conversations and the use of Navigate 360. This tool is available in every student's portal and can be accessed at any time. The interventionists assign a learning module to help students understand their behavior and to build a plan for making better choices as they navigate middle school.

Counselors
All GCPS counselors are state-certified, highly skilled professionals who possess the minimum of a Master's degree or higher in school counseling. Our purpose is to serve 100% of Gwinnett students in removing barriers to academic success. Our goal is to assist students in developing skills and competencies necessary to complement the academic curriculum and impact a positive school climate. Counselors work in cooperation with parents and teachers to provide programs and services that enhance student academic performance, instill respect for lifelong learning, and heighten career awareness and exploration. Counselors provide crisis intervention and serve as a community liaison.
