Gateway

Gwinnett County Public Schools’ (GCPS) High School Gateway Writing Assessments measure students’ ability to write effectively about Gwinnett’s Academic Knowledge and Skills curriculum in the areas of Biology, Chemistry, and U.S. History.

The Gateway is administered in two assessments. For science, students typically take the assessment in 10th grade. For U.S. History, students typically take the assessment in 11th grade.

Students write an essay for each assessment. In writing the essays, students use information from provided documents combined with their own knowledge from their courses.

During the school year, science and social studies teachers give students many opportunities to practice their writing skills so they will be ready for the Gateway assessments.

U.S. History Gateway 

In March of 2022, 11th Graders will take the U.S. History Gateway.
