  • Teen Read Hour

Hey Broncos!  The media center wants to reward you for reading books that you love.  In October we are introducing our "Teen Read Hour".  All you have to do is come to the Media Center to check out your favorite books first thing in the morning or during extended homeroom and you could be a winner! So if you want to win . . . ask your teacher for a pass.  Winners will be randomly selected each week from the media center sign-in so don’t forget to check in on the computer!  Remember, each day you check out a book will increase your chance to win!
    Hope to see you soon!

  • Take 5 for Summer Reading

What is  the Take 5 Books for Summer Reading Initiative?
The Five Forks Media Center is offering incentives to Rising 7th and 8th grade FFMS students who read three or more books over the summer months beyond their required summer reading assignments. Students who return a signed permission slip to participate will be allowed to check out up to five books from the school library to read over the summer. The Media Center will provide the following rewards:

    • All students who participate in the Take 5 Summer Reading Initiative will be invited to a reading celebration at the beginning of next school year.
    • Students who participate will also be entered into a drawing per grade level to win a Starbucks gift card, a  Barns & Noble gift card, or a gift basket! The winners will be drawn during the reading celebration!

    When does it begin?
Students may turn in permission slips and check out up to five books for the Take 5 Books for Summer Reading Initiative a week before school is out for the summer. Only students who turn in the signed permission slip will be allowed to check out books.

What does the research say about summer reading?
“Regardless of ethnicity, socioeconomic level, or previous achievement, children who read four or more books over the summer fare better on reading-comprehension tests in the fall than their peers who read one or no books over the summer.”
--Jimmy Kim, Journal of Education for Students Placed at Risk

Avoid the Summer Slide and participate in this summer reading extravaganza! Summer is an amazing time for reading.
