BHS 9th Grade Summer Reading

  • Summer reading

Summer reading provides an opportunity to enhance your reading skills and enjoy books that you’ve selected. To prepare for the new school year, you will be required to read one book over the summer, choosing from the list provided and completing the assignment attached. This assignment will be incorporated into our first unit in August.

The below list reflects a range of student interests and readability levels–including a mix of popular young adult titles and modern classics, both fiction and non-fiction. Each book on the list is accompanied by a brief summary.

The book list includes some titles containing mature themes and content. Thus, we strongly encourage parents and guardians to review the books that students have selected for their summer reading prior to the books being read. Several
websites, including www.commonsensemedia.org and www.goodreads.com offer reviews to help parents and students make the appropriate selection.

In addition to purchasing books at your preferred store, we have also included accessible links for some of the titles. You can also download the Libby App to electronically check out books using the GCPS school library card.

Carnegie Unit Information

  • Attached is the PPT from Wednesday's Carnegie Night Meeting. I understand that there are opportunities to go in and select the Carnegie Units of choice using Parent Vue, but at this time mathematics has not been added. I am checking daily and once I see that it has been loaded, I will communicate to you ASAP.  Carnegie Night Presentation Link

Remember that the default for Carnegie Units will be a "Yes" if you do not go in and change it. The exception to this is mathematics. This will default to "No" if you do not go in and change it.

All Carnegie Units need to be accepted/declined by May 31st. This is also the last day to make any changes to your student's current high school course roster.

Please let me know if you have any questions!
