Welcome to Trickum Middle School! Here at Trickum, we have four school counselors, one per grade level and a lead counselor working on whole school initiatives. School counselors are unique individuals who support all students through a comprehensive program that addresses academic, career and social/emotional development. To learn more about our program, click the tabs below! To the left, you will see tabs for each of the grade level counselors to learn more about us!
During digital learning, Gwinnett County School Counselors will continue supporting students' academic success, career development, and social-emotional growth, utilizing Zoom and Google Meet for individual meetings, conferences, presentations, groups, and classroom lessons/activities.

Teen Lures
During the months of November and February, the counselors will teach the Teen Lures curriculum in the classroom. Each homeroom teacher will send out the parent letter, the digital agreement, and the teen helpline flyer. The parent letter goes into detail about the Teen Lures curriculum and includes instructions if you choose for your child to not participate in the lesson (see below). The digital agreement discusses online safety and the teen helpline flyer lists hotlines for teens to access in need of crisis. Please reach out to your grade level counselor for more information.
We all share a common goal for our children to be safe and protected from all things harmful. Related to that goal, Senate Bill 401 requires annual age-appropriate sexual abuse and assault awareness and prevention in kindergarten through grade 9. Teen LuresTM Prevention is a research-based program that Gwinnett County Public Schools uses to teach the importance of healthy relationships and its connection to personal safety by way of class discussions, student handouts, video clips and corresponding activities. The program curriculum was submitted and reviewed by the Community Health Education Advisory Committee. The purpose of the Teen LuresTM Prevention program is to enable students to take an active and necessary role in making healthy choices and protecting themselves from unhealthy relationships. A committee of professional school counselors reviewed the program and selected components that were appropriate for middle school.
During the months of February and March, our school counselors will offer lessons from the Teen LuresTM Prevention program to students in grades 6-8. You can learn more about the program at teenluresprevention.com. Please be aware that more information is provided on the website than is actually used in our schools. Students will review what was learned in previous grade(s) and then discuss the following lures:
6th
Game Lure
e-lure
Name Lure
Emergency Lure
7th
Authority Lure
Assistance Lure
Ego/Fame Lure
8th
Affection Lure
Trafficking Lure
Pet Lure
If you prefer that your child not participate in the Teen LuresTM Prevention lessons, please write and sign a note (an email will suffice) indicating your preferences and send it to your child’s teacher or school counselor. Unless written documentation is received, your child will have the opportunity to participate in the teen lures prevention and safety lessons. As always, counselors are available to discuss any concerns you might have.

Classroom Curriculum
We aim to meet with classes throughout the year in order to provide developmentally appropriate lessons to all students. This year, we will be visiting every classroom to teach Teen Lures and GCIS, as well as a few others. All lessons will align with Georgia's Competencies for the appropriate grade level, as well as the American School Counselor Association's (ASCA's) Mindsets & Behaviors for Student Success.
