• Welcome to Eighth Grade!

  • Carnegie Credit Application Information

    Dear parents/guardians,

Gwinnett County Public Schools has released the Carnegie Credit Decision Form for eighth grade students in the GCPS Parent Portal. Carnegie units are the credits awarded to students for successful completion of high school courses. Gwinnett County students must earn 23 Carnegie units of credit in order to graduate from high school. Northbrook eighth grade students may earn Carnegie units for passing any of the following approved high school level courses while in middle school: Enhanced Algebra, Physical Science, and Spanish 1.  For information, please watch this video:

Please note that ALL eighth grade students are encouraged to accept the credit for the High School Physical Science course. Students who are enrolled in the two-year Spanish 1 course are encouraged to accept that credit, if they feel they are ready to move into Spanish II. Students who are in Enhanced Algebra who have been recommended to take Algebra at Peachtree Ridge in ninth grade should NOT accept the Carnegie credit. Students who have been recommended to take Accelerated Geometry in ninth grade are encouraged to accept the Carnegie credit.

If you need further clarification regarding whether your student should accept a credit or not, please reach out to your child's math teacher.
