    October 23-27, 2023

    • Red Ribbon Week is a national drug prevention and awareness campaign that began following the murder of Enrique Camarena, an undercover DEA agent, in 1985.
    • Coalitions began to form by those outraged by his death and the devastation drugs in this country caused - they wore red ribbons to honor him.
    • By wearing a red ribbon in October, Americans pledge their opposition to drug abuse.
    • Across the nation, students are pledging to avoid tobacco, drugs, alcohol, and violence.

    DID YOU KNOW?

Children of parents who talk to teens regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don’t – yet only a quarter of teens report having these conversations?!

This year our Camp Creek ES PTA Health Committee has organized several events in honor of Red Ribbon Week, October 23 through October 27 (see below).

The 2023 theme isBe Kind to Your Mind. Live Drug Free.™
