Core Curriculum
All students in K-5receive core counseling lessons on personal safety (Think First & Stay Safe), Lifelines (Suicide Prevention - 5th only), and careers (Career Clusters).
Think First & Stay Safe
The Think First & Stay Safe™ program is a research-based program that teaches specific personal safety education by way of interactive classroom lessons, classroom posters, role playing and corresponding activities. Think First & Stay Safe™ enables students to take an active and necessary role in protecting themselves from abuse and exploitation. You can learn more about the detailed lesson plans and research behind this program at www.childluresprevention.com. Please be aware that more information is provided on the website than is actually used in Gwinnett County. Parents have the opportunity to preview the materials used in the Child Lures lessons during the Early Release Days in October. Your child will bring home a letter after they receive the lesson that lets you know when the lesson was taught. The letter will also give you some more information and talking points.
Lifelines (5th grade ONLY)Lifelines is an evidence-based curriculum, to educate students in grades 5, 7, and 9 on the facts about suicide and students’ role in suicide prevention. The program curriculum includes developmentally appropriate class discussions, student handouts, videos, and corresponding activities. The program curriculum was submitted and reviewed by the Community Health Education Advisory Committee. The purpose of the Lifelines Prevention program is to provide accurate and relevant information about youth suicide, learn how to respond to suicidal friends, and where to go for help.Career Clusters
