The Stripling Elementary School Counseling Department is dedicated to implementing a comprehensive counseling program that will address the academic, career, and personal/social development all students, enabling them to strive for excellence, grow into well-rounded individuals and achieve their highest potential.

Academic Development

Counselor Standards

The Elementary School Counselor
- Counsels individually with children
Teaches regular guidance lessons in classrooms:
- Conducts small group counseling sessions
- Consults with parent in private conferences about their child
- Consults with teachers
- Sponsors student programs
- Provides information on community resources for families
- Removes barriers that impact academic success
- Makes referrals to supporting agencies

The counselor is available to work with students on the following topics and issues to help them to be more successful at school:
- Study skills (organization, testing tips, etc.)
- Family changes (moving, death, divorce, separation)
- Stress and perfectionism
- Attendance
- Classroom behavior
- Peer relations
- Responsibility
How Can I See The Counselor?
- Leave an “I Need to Talk” note in the box outside your counselor’s door.
- Ask the teacher to contact the counselor
- Call the counselor to make an appointment
- E-mail the counselor
Home Alone Policy:
- Age 8 or under: Should never be home alone
- Age 9-12: Can stay alone up to 2 hours
- Age 13 and over: Can stay alone up to 12 hours and can perform the role of babysitter.
