  • Academic Development

    Standard A: Students will acquire the attitudes, knowledge and skills that contribute to effective learning in school and across the life span.

    Standard B: Students will complete school with the academic preparation essential to choose from a wide range of substantial post-secondary options, including college.

    Standard C: Students will understand the relationship of academics to the world of work and to life at home and in the community.

  • Career Development

    Standard A: Students will acquire the skills to investigate the world of work in relation to knowledge of self and to make informed career decisions.

Counselor Standards

  • The Elementary School Counselor

    • Counsels individually with children

    Teaches regular guidance lessons in classrooms:

    • Conducts small group counseling sessions
    • Consults with parent in private conferences about their child
    • Consults with teachers
    • Sponsors student programs
    • Provides information on community resources for families
    • Removes barriers that impact academic success
    • Makes referrals to supporting agencies

    • Peer Relations/Friendship
    • Career Exploration
    • Study Skills
    • Decision making
    • Self-esteem
    • Personal Safety
    • Character Building
    • Bully Prevention

    The counselor is available to work with students on the following topics and issues to help them to be more successful at school:

    • Study skills (organization, testing tips, etc.)
    • Family changes (moving, death, divorce, separation)
    • Stress and perfectionism
    • Attendance
    • Classroom behavior
    • Peer relations
    • Responsibility

    How Can I See The Counselor?

    • Leave an “I Need to Talk” note in the box outside your counselor’s door.
    • Ask the teacher to contact the counselor
    • Call the counselor to make an appointment
    • E-mail the counselor

    Home Alone Policy:

    • Age 8 or under: Should never be home alone
    • Age 9-12: Can stay alone up to 2 hours
    • Age 13 and over: Can stay alone up to 12 hours and can perform the role of babysitter.
