Jenkins Elementary School is named after Bartow Jenkins, former teacher, coach, and mayor of Lawrenceville. It was established in 2010 as a Title I school and opened for 950 students on August 9, 2010. The initial staff roster included 95 people under the leadership of Dr. Dot Schoeller, Principal. The selected faculty and staff made a surprise walk-through visit at the first faculty meeting that was held on May 2, 2010. The first team-building working retreat at the school was held on June 2-3, 2010. The first community open house to see the building was held on July 19, 2010. In honor of Bartow Jenkins, on October 24, 2010, the building dedication ceremony was held with the Gwinnett County School Board, Lawrenceville City Officials and his family members The 2nd graders sang the national anthem and the chorus sang an inspirational song. The first PTA sponsored fall festival was held on October 30, 2010. It was a fun time with hay rides, trunk or treat, a costume parade, face painting, and lots of sports activities. The first international night was held on January 27, 2011 with over 600 people attending! Each grade level presented writing pieces and art work for a different region of the world.
