Service Learning Class meets on the first day of the mini semester and thereafter, depending on the students' ability to turn in assignments by email, text or in person by the required dates. Students who do not turn in assignments on time will be required to meet weekly in person at Phoenix High School with the instructor on Tuesdays, at 3:00pm.
Phoenix HS Service Learning students are serving our community by volunteering with local nonprofit agencies. The goal of our students is to help others as they individually accumulate a total of at least 50 hours of volunteer service to earn 0.5 units of elective credit by the end of the mini semester. Students will meet with their Service Learning class on the first day of the mini semester for orientation and then turn in required assignments promptly when due. Students will turn-in weekly Volunteer Service Log forms & photos, participate in class activities, and work on their required reports. The photo-essay report must be turned in on, or before, the required Service Learning deadline of the mini semester. Photographs are required; they must show the student participating in all of their service experiences throughout the mini semester at each agency served.
All required paperwork for the student and their volunteer agency supervisor is found on the eCLASS page designated by the teacher. Upon entering the Service Learning class, it is imperative that the student email Missy.Dishman@gcpsk12.org or Jane.D.Story@gcpsk12.org text Mrs. Dishman or Ms. Story at their Google Voice number. Once the student makes contact, arrangements will be made for an in-person orientation of the Service Learning class at Phoenix High School.
