The Brookwood High School Orchestra program has been enriching the lives of young string musician students since the school opened in 1985. The program currently serves over 350 high school students in five different orchestras by providing opportunities for students to develop their musical skills, create long-lasting relationships, and have fun playing music! Membership in the Brookwood Orchestra program also allows students to pursue Tri-M Honors Society, unique travel experiences, and leadership opportunities. All orchestra students earn the fine arts credit required for graduation and many boost their college applications with four years of high school orchestra on their transcript. High achieving orchestra students have represented Brookwood High School at the county and state level by performing in honor orchestras in Gwinnett County, in Atlanta, and in Georgia All-State Orchestras. Brookwood’s premier string ensemble, the Philharmonic Orchestra, has performed at the Georgia Music Educators Association annual conference (2009), the Southern Music Hall of Fame (2014), the New York Invitational Music Festival at Carnegie Hall (2017), at the governor’s mansion for every few years and for local organizations in our community.
