    High School Tests - 9th, 10th, 11th, & 12th Grades

    The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, The PSAT/NMSQT 11 is a standardized assessment that provides practice for the SAT. It also provides students a chance to enter National Merit Scholarship Corporation scholarship programs and gain access to college and career planning tools. PSAT/NMSQT for 11th graders will be in October.
     
    The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test 8/9  is a standardized assessment that provides practice for the SAT. The PSAT 8/9 measures reading, writing, and language, and mathematics to help students determine areas of focus for college preparedness. The PSAT for 9th graders will be in October.     Advanced Placement AP assessments allow students to get a feel for the rigors of college-level studies while in High School. Students demonstrate to college admission officers that they have sought out an educational experience that prepares them for success in college and beyond. The AP exams for High School students in AP classes will be taken in May 2020.
     
    The ACCESS Test (Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State to State) is a standards-based, criterion-referenced English language proficiency test designed to measure English learners' social and academic proficiency in English.     Gwinnett Writes - At the October 2022 Board of Education meeting, the board adopted a new Post-Secondary Readiness policy (IHC). With this action, the Board of Education included the charge for Gwinnett County Public Schools to develop and implement writing assessments. This new policy supports our community’s shared vision for our Portrait of a Graduate. This vision articulates the skills, competencies, and attitudes our community believes are vital for students to possess when they graduate from GCPS, including the critical thinking needed for effective written communication. Additionally, this new assessment program, named Gwinnett Writes, is a key improvement to our Balanced Assessment Program as it will allow GCPS to monitor and assess writing skills for each and every student as they learn to write in elementary school and use writing with increasing fluency for learning in middle and high school courses. 

    Middle School Tests - 6th, 7th, & 8th Grades

    Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT®) A multiple-choice K-12 assessment that is used to determine admissions into gifted and talented programs. CogAT Testing for 8th graders will be in September.

  • High School Testing Waivers

     SAT Information       ACT Information

    • Any student who qualifies for free or reduced lunch program in Gwinnett County Public Schools is entitled to limited fee waivers for SAT and ACT testing.
    • Students can receive two fee waivers for the ACT and two fee waivers for the SAT during their junior or senior year.
    • Students can also receive two fee waivers for SAT Subject Tests during grades 9-12.
    • Before registering for the test, students should visit the counseling office to obtain these fee waivers and discuss locations where they are eligible to test.
    • The student's counselor will sign and complete the waiver with appropriate school codes.
