• WHAT IS TITLE I? 

    Title I is a federal funded program resulting from the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, amended in 2015 by the Every Student Succeeds Act. Title I provides funds to schools and districts based upon the percentage of students qualifying to receive free or reduced price (school) meals. The purpose is to ensure that all children have access to quality instruction and resources that will enable them to meet state academic standards.

    There are 68 schools operating Title I Programs in Gwinnett County Public Schools. Of these, 42 are elementary schools, 12 are middle schools, 10 are high schools, and three alternative schools. Each Title I Schoolwide Program has an on-site Family Center, facilitated by either a Parent Instructional Coordinator (PIC), who is a certified teacher, or a Parent Outreach Liaison (POL).

    Each Title I School is required to host workshops/training for parents that focus upon the academic needs of the students. While many of these workshops/training occur during daytime hours, others are held in the evenings. Additionally, these workshops/training are repeated, based upon attendance and parent requests.  Interpreters (for Spanish speaking parents) and childcare are often available.

  • Parent Right to Know


    ​Parents have the right to request information about the degree and qualifications of their child's teacher(s) and paraprofessional(s), if applicable.  Please refer to the GCPS Student-Parent Handbook or contact your school's principal for more information.

    Grounds for a Complaint.  Any individual, organization, or agency (“complainant”) may file a complaint with Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) if that individual, organization, or agency believes and alleges that GCPS is violating a Federal statue or regulation under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965, as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015.
