No Place For Hate

  • Woodward Mill ES is a No Place for Hate school!  What does this mean?  This means that each year, our school seeks to build a safe and inclusive community in which respect and equity are the goals and where each and every student can thrive.  We empower students, teachers, administration and family members to take a stand against bias and bullying by incorporating new and existing programs under one powerful message.  We send a clear,unified message that all students have a place where they belong.

     

    Woodward Mill ES has received this designation from the Anti-Defamation League every year since 2019-20.  In order to receive this designation, everyone in our school community signs the No Place for Hate Pledge found below.  Throughout the year, every student participates in at least three school-wide activities that promote this message such as Kindness Week, Mix it Up Day, and more!  Our student council members help us to plan these activities throughout the year.

    • I promise to do my best to treat everyone fairly.

    • I promise to do my best to be kind to everyone—even if they are not like me.

    • If I see someone being hurt or bullied, I will tell a teacher.

    • I will help others to feel safe and happy at school.

    • I will be part of making my school No Place for Hate.

  • Inclusive and Equitable School Climate Policy Statement

    Research indicates that a safe, inclusive and equitable school climate translates into safer, more engaging and supportive school communities. How students and staff feel about a school’s culture impacts other key indicators of success, including academic achievement and teacher retention.  School climate refers to how students and staff feel about the social and environmental factors that make up their school culture (e.g., rules, policies, teaching, pedagogy, etc.).

     

    Woodward Mill commits to developing and maintaining a respectful, inclusive and equitable school climate that is reflected in classrooms and common areas free from bias and bullying behavior; clearly stated expectations about each individual’s responsibility in challenging bias and bullying; and curricula that reflect the diversity of

    the student population and the society in which we live. Without this, students will not feel safe, welcomed, challenged and supported.

     

    All members of the school community, including students, staff, administrators and family members, are expected to serve as role models by demonstrating ally behavior, implementing culturally responsive pedagogy and respecting other students and staff.

     

    Woodward Mill will not accept any form of bias, harassment, discrimination, bullying or intimidation that would interfere with a respectful, inclusive and equitable school climate. If such an incident does take place, the school will address the issue with the individual(s) and will use the moment to educate the school community.
