    Reading is fun!!! Checking out books from our school's media center is a vital part of the learning experience. Books often complement classroom instruction, are used for research, or simply for personal enjoyment. Please make time to read at home with your child.

  • Kindergarten

    Media Center Polices & Procedures for Kindergarten Students

    Number of checkouts:  1 book 

    Check out period: Books are checked out for two weeks at a time. However, kindergarten students visit the media center once a week at which time if a book is returned student may checkout a different book.

    Overdue books: Notices will be sent home with students who have overdue books. Any overdue books must be returned to the media center before a student can checkout another book.

    Care of books: Please help your child select a safe dry place to keep their media center books at home. Some choose to keep their books in their backpack in a high and secure place.

  • 1st Grade

    Media Center Policies and Procedures for First Grade

    Number of checkouts: 1 book

    Check out period: Books are checked out for two weeks at a time.
    If a student is still reading at the end of the two weeks, they may renew by bringing the book to the media center to check out again, as many times as needed.

  • 2nd through 5th Grade

    Number of checkouts: 2 books

  • Lost and Damaged Books

    Media Center Lost & Damaged Book Polices

    Damaged books: Sometimes accidents happens. If a book is damaged, please return what is left to the media specialist. She will determine if it needs to be replaced, or if it can be repaired, and assess the appropriate fines. (Fines will not be assessed for the kinds of damage due to normal wear and tear.)

    Lost books: To clear up a lost book, students must return or pay for the book. Do not send cash to school for a lost book. Go to My Payments Plus website to pay for a lost book. Paperback books cost $5.00. Hardcover books cost $15.00. Lost books must be paid for before a student may check out another book.

Material Selection Policy

  • Lilburn Elementary media center actively collects materials that support the Gwinnett County Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum. All books and materials are approved by the Media Committee that consist of teachers, administrators, parents, and community representatives. With that in mind, we select materials that support our diverse student population with a variety of reading interests and levels.
