  • Band, Miss Ruby Yoo

    Ms. Rubelle Yoo is the band director at Summerour Middle School, and is a graduate of Gwinnett County Schools from the North Gwinnett cluster. She graduated Cum Laude from the University of Georgia with a bachelor's degree in Music Education from the Hugh Hodgson School of Music. Ms. Yoo has also taught at flute camps in north Georgia and led flute marching band sectionals at schools around the state. Under the instruction of Ms. Yoo, the Summerour Band has received Superior and Excellent ratings at the Georgia Music Educators Association Large Group Performance Evaluation.

    Ms. Yoo is a member of the Georgia Music Educator's Assocation and the National Association for Music Education.

    Ms. Yoo resides in Suwanee, Georgia. In her free time, she enjoys reading and spending time indoors.

  • Chorus, Ms. Rosie Smith

    Ms. Rosie Smith is the choir director at Summerour Middle School and is so excited to be joining the GCPS team this school year! Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, Ms. Smith graduated summa cum laude with bachelor's degrees in K-12 Vocal Music Education and Secondary Education from William Jewell College in 2019. After teaching 6-12 vocal music for two years in Paola, Kansas, Ms. Smith began and completed her full-time master's program in choral conducting at Georgia State University. Ms. Smith is a strong advocate for music education and is committed to helping every student find their voice! 
    Ms. Smith lives in Norcross with her cat Henry. She is a Kansas City Chiefs football fan and enjoys playing video games, spending time with friends, and making trips home to see her family as often as she can.

  • Dance & Drama, Mr. Tony DeBerry

    Teacher, Dancer, and Choreographer Mr. DeBerry better known as Tony DeBerry. Graduated from Bowling Green State University where he received a Bachelor’s of Science in Education with a focus in Dance. Over 10 years Mr. DeBerry has been an educator, dancer and choreographer in the industry. Training and creating in the styles such as  Jazz, Contemporary Modern, Hip Hop and Heels. Working with a wide range of artists from dancing to choreographing, Xscape, Sophia Dashing, Turquoise Music, Dyllón Burnside, Julian Woodhouse, Kanye West, Rico Nasty, LaLa Rai, Savannah Cristina , Lisa Yaro, Diamond ATL, Todrick Hall, Big Freeda, Teyana Taylor, Jill Scott, Norwegian Cruise Line, Virgin Voyage and more.

    Musical theater is also a love of Mr.DeBerry’s , having appeared in popular Broadway plays such as Chicago, Dreamgirls, and West Side Story. Leading to Television and Film. Casted as the lead, Matt, in Foul Play, on Amazon Prime. Then having the opportunities to work with Disney and Marvel Studios on the show Tag Team, Genius Aretha on National Geographic, With this Ring on Lifetime movies , season 2 of PValley on Starz, to and in a new movie that is groundbreaking for the LGBT community, Noah’s Arc : Daddy Lessons, Netflix movie. The Piano Lesson .

    This year Tony was one of the first Black men to choreograph heel dancers to ever walk and dance at New York Fashion Week 2022.  As he choreographed for artist Julian Woodhouse and walked in WOODHOUSE fashions. Mr. DeBerry’s training and artistry development. Dancing for companies such as Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble, Dancing Wheels dance company, a physically integrated dance company, Verb Ballet, Davis Contemporary Dance Company, NU-World Contemporary Danse Company, Komanse Dance, Duffy Liturgical, and City Gate Dance Theater. Every company has instilled knowledge and skills into their artists and helped mold them. Giving them more than just dance but community.  That’s why Tony gave  back to his community by doing outreach with the city's department of recreation to provide free dance classes to inner city children that can’t afford dance  opportunities. Also, doing outreach in local city schools and the Boys and Girls Club of America. Just providing the children with different avenues of expression. Giving back has afforded Tony the opportunity to dance for the NAACP, and to be acknowledged by the United Black Funds and the Mayor of Denver , Michael Hancock.

  • Visual Arts, Mrs. McKenzie Kitchings

    Mrs. Kitchings was born and raised in Gwinnett County, and has always been passionate about art. From a young age, she had access to a variety of art materials and started making all her Christmas presents at the age of 5. Mrs. Kitchings graduated from Kennesaw State in December of 2013 and has been teaching art since 2014. She has experience teaching at the High School and Elementary level and is enjoying her time at Summerour. Since being here, she has become the sponsor for the National Junior Art Honor Society and created a warm and welcoming environment in the art room. Ceramics and painting are the art techniques Mrs. Kitchings loves to teach the most! 

    When not teaching, you can find Mrs. Kitchings traveling with her husband and son, making personal art, and cooking. She has purchased a house in Gwinnett county and looks forward to becoming more involved by volunteering in her community!
