Choosing a College
When choosing a college, there are several important factors to consider:
- Location: How far away from home do I want to be?
- Size: How many students do I want to be in class with?
- Cost: Can I reasonably afford the tuition and fees?
- Academic: Does this college offer my prospective major? Does this college offer a variety of majors for me to explore?
- Admission requirements: What are my chances of being admitted to this college? Am I meeting their requirements?
There are several free online tools that will allow you to explore colleges that match your preferences.

Class Rank & GPA
Many schools will ask you to self-report your class rank and GPA. This information can be found at the bottom of your most recent transcript.

College Application Fee Waiver
Students who are served through free/reduced lunch are eligible for college application fee waivers. After taking the SAT on a fee waiver, four college application waivers will be loaded into your CollegeBoard account.
Check with individual college admission websites for school specific requirements regarding application fee waivers.

Letters of Recommendation
We are happy to brag about you! Often times, colleges and universities will request a letter of recommendation from your high school counselor.
To obtain a letter of recommendation from your counselor, please complete and submit the Autobiographical Sketch.
Please allow your counselor 10 school days prior to the deadline.

Policies regarding admission of undocumented students is always changing, so be sure to check for up to date information on college admission websites. Counselors can also assist in facilitating that conversation.

Technical Colleges
Programs at these colleges offer students the opportunity to earn a certificate, diploma or an associate's degree in a technical field. These schools typically have less rigorous admission requirements, including more flexible deadlines.
Interested students can take either the SAT, ACT, or COMPASS/ACCUPLACER test.

Transcripts
Students must request their transcripts be sent to in state and out of state colleges via Naviance. In order to add a transcript request, the college must be listed on the student's "Colleges I'm Applying To" list. More information on sending transcripts via Naviance can be found here.
