• The A+ Education Reform Act of 2000 established school councils in Georgia with the purpose to bring communities and schools closer together in a spirit of cooperation. School councils are advisory bodies which shall provide advice and recommendations to the school principal related to student achievement and school improvement. They work with teachers, parents, and business partners.

    At a minimum, a School Council is composed of seven members, including the following:

    • The principal,
    • Two certified teachers, and
    • Four parents (or guardians); two of the parents must be businesspersons.
    • The school council may, within its bylaws, increase the number of members, if the parents remain the majority.

    The members of the school council are accountable to the constituents they serve and shall:

    • Regularly participate in council meetings.
    • Maintain a school-wide perspective on issues.
    • Participate in information and training programs.
    • Act as a link between the school council and the community
    • Encourage the participation of parents and others within the school community.
    • Work to improve student achievement and performance.

    The 2024-2025 School Council meeting dates are as follows:

    • September 13
    • November 15
    • January 24
    • March 13
