School Closing Information

If hazardous weather, including snow or ice, or other emergencies present a threat to the safety of students, staff, or school property, Mountain Park Elementary may close early or cancel school as appropriate and as directed by Gwinnett County Public Schools policy.

The decision to cancel school is generally made before 6 a.m. The Gwinnett County Public Schools superintendent makes the decision about weather-related school closings including snow and ice.

The school system immediately notifies the following entities:

Atlanta’s major radio stations
Atlanta’s major television stations
GCPS TVGCPS TV can be found on the following Gwinnett County cable channels:
Charter – Channel 22
Comcast – Channel 24 or 26
AT&T U-verse – check the GCPS TV website for details

Students need to be enrolled and all proper paperwork supplied to the office, before you child may begin classes. Please follow the directions on the registration page.

We encourage parents to visit our school. For the protection of your children, all parents and visitors must sign in through the office and receive visitor tags.  As a courtesy to the teacher, we ask that a prior appointment be made for visitation and/or conference.

All parent portal email requests must be made in person. Please bring a photo ID in order to verify approval. 

Children will not be released from school at any unscheduled time without a written explanation from the parent or guardian. A parent or guardian wishing to check his or her child out of school early must first come into the office, sign the student out, and have the student paged to come to the office. The office may require verification of the right of custody or identification from anyone requesting early dismissal of a student.

For your child’s protection, it is very important that the procedures are followed.

There will be no student check out after 2 p.m.
