If your application is accepted there is a $25 art fee for the year to help provide all the supplies we will need for our projects.

Chess Club

Cross Country

Everyone is welcome; no running experience is required. Cross-Country is our newest club sport. Students practice after school and attend 2 local cross-country meets (Sept/Oct), competing against other middle schools. Culinary Art Club

Everyone is welcome, but there is an application and interview process that all students must go through. Space is limited to 50 slots. When pleasant aromas waft down the hallways throughout the building, you know Chef Ashley's Culinary Arts Club is in session. An enthusiastic, energetic, and certainly eclectic club, we cook up a storm every 1st & 2nd Monday of the month. With a passion for taste, presentation, and, of course, eating, every member contributes to each decadent and delightful, palate-pleasing recipe. We have partnered with many WONDERFUL organizations to prepare heartfelt meals for and serve - come see what we’ve got cooking!

Environmental Club

Everyone is welcome. McConnell Middle School's Environmental Club is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. We will be exploring environmental issues on the global as well as local level with the goal of improving society's impact on the environment. Fan Bus/Cheer Buddies Club

Everyone is welcome. "FAN BUS" is an opportunity for MMS students to be taken to cheer and support the HOME Girls and Boys Basketball games played after school at Archer HS. The students must be in good behavioral standing, prepay for all games in advance, and follow all Fan Bus rules to have transportation provided and entrance to the games. "CHEER BUDDIES" is a cheer/sport opportunity for MMS students in the separate classroom settings to cheer and support ONE HOME Girls and Boys Basketball game played after school at Archer HS. The students will work with the MMS Cheer Staff and MMS Cheerleaders in preparation for and during the event.

The National Junior Beta Club is an honors organization that recognizes outstanding academic achievement, promotes strong moral character and social responsibility, encourages service to others, fosters leadership skills, and provides settings for students to develop strong interpersonal skills. Readers Rally

Relay for Life Team

Everyone is welcome. Relay for Life is a club on a mission: to help cure cancer … all cancers. The whole school gets involved in fundraising for Relay for Life. The club members will also be invited to attend the county-wide Relay for Life event at the Gwinnett County Fair Grounds in May.

Everyone is welcome. In our First Lego League Robotics Club, McConnell’s Tiger Bots are introduced to computer programming and engineering in fun ways. Our teams build and learn how to program their bots. The students attend weekend tournaments competing against other middle schools for bragging rights and learning tips & tricks to better their bots for next time!

McConnell’s Skittles Squad, which will be student-led and sponsor-supported, creates a safe space for all students who need support. Open to all LGBTQ+ students, questioning students, allies, students with LGBTQ+ families, and students who do not have or need a label for their gender identity or sexual orientation.

Volleyball

Are you interested in volleyball?  Our school has three girls' teams whose season runs from August to September! A camp for those interested in trying out is held in April and team tryouts are in early May. Parents should do ALL RANK ONE ACCOUNT INFORMATION FIRST, and then take the HISTORY FORM to the Doctor to get your Physical Examination Form completed BEFORE team tryouts. From October to March, Coach Thomas also offers a weekly Volleyball Open Gym after school where everyone is invited to attend to work on their skills. No experience is required. All girls in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades are welcome. Those in 5th grade, who will be coming to McConnell as 6th graders, will try out for the team each May.

Everyone is welcome. Do you enjoy taking pictures? Can you work collaboratively to brainstorm ideas for content and layouts? Are you interested in helping to create our 2024-2025 McConnell Yearbook? If you answered “yes” to any of those questions, the McConnell Yearbook Club may be for you! See Mrs. Morrison in the Media Center for an application. Membership will be capped at 40 students. Meetings will be on the 2nd and 4th TUESDAY of every month, from 4:30-5:30 in the media center. As deadlines approach, more meetings may be added.
