Assessments in Elementary School

A variety of local, district, and state assessments are given throughout the year to assess student understanding and determine next steps for instruction. Local and district assessment dates are shared by teachers in the classroom. More information about these assessments can be found on the Gwinnett County Public Schools' Accountability & Assessment page. Please reach out to your child’s teacher or Assistant Principal with any questions regarding assessments.

ACCESS - Grades K-5
ACCESS is a standards-based, criterion-referenced English language proficiency test designed to measure English learners' social and academic proficiency in English.

District Assessments - Grades 1-5
District Assessments are a part of Gwinnett County Public School’s Balanced Assessment System.
Administration of the formative common assessments occurs at the end of instructional units and is organically blended within the instructional day. Additionally, required Midyear/1st and 2nd Semester Finals/End of Year Assessments, and GCPS Milestones Benchmark assessments, based on grade level, are provided at the 18-, 27-, and 36-week marks.

Georgia Milestones - Grades 3-5
The Georgia Milestones is a comprehensive summative assessment program that measures how well students have learned the knowledge and skills outlined in the content standards.
Schools administer the Georgia Milestones End of Grade Assessments to students in grades 3-5 to measure achievement in Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science (Grade 5 only). Testing will be administered over three to five days, depending on the grade level. The testing schedule is determined by your child’s school.

GKIDS - Kindergarten
GKIDS is a performance-based assessment with the goal of providing teachers with information about the level of instructional support needed by individual students. Teachers assess throughout the year during instruction. Students in Kindergarten Results are provided at any time during the year, during conferences, or accompanied with a report card. Students are assessed in the areas of Math, Social Studies, Science, Approaches to Learning, Personal and Social Development, and Motor Skills.

Universal Screener - Grades K-5
Universal Screeners are given to all students in Kindergarten - 5th grade. At Brookwood Elementary, students complete the Universal Screener through iReady.
This assessment is administered three times each school year to help teachers identify students in need of enrichment/acceleration or who are at risk for poor learning outcomes.
