Preparing Students to Become Future-Ready!

Achieving excellence for each and every student means partnering with families and communities to ensure that students are ready for their future, not our past.

In 2023, this means we must prepare students to ask new questions and solve new problems. Technology, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), continue to change how we interact, learn, and manage day-to-day tasks, with an impact on every industry, from law to healthcare to engineering. In response, our schools are developing engaging, real-world classroom experiences in every subject area at every grade level, with emphasis on STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) instruction, an essential component in our children’s education.

In STEM classes, children learn subject-matter content, as well as problem-solving, critical thinking, collaboration, and resilience—all skills needed to solve real-world challenges. GCPS has 11 state-certified schools and programs with a STEM or STEAM focus as well as award-winning teachers like Melissa Barth, a Harbins ES teacher recently named a 2023 Don Cargill STEM Scholar.

GCPS’ commitment to providing a robust STEM education is evident in the CS For All program, a K–12 initiative to make high-quality computer science an integral part of the educational experience of each and every student.

Students in the  new Seckinger cluster have access to the first AI courses offered in Georgia. Cluster schools are focused on ensuring that every child can thrive in their future by piloting AI-ready learning experiences. By embedding future-ready learning in our existing standards, students apply their understanding of programming, data science, mathematical reasoning, creative problem-solving, ethics, and applied experiences to a variety of unsolved problems in order to develop solutions.

These are just a few examples of how GCPS continues to support student pathways to college and career success and ensure our students are future-ready!
