Mr. Christopher Bess

Principal

In addition to being an educator, I am also a lifelong learner, coach, volunteer, and mentor.  I am a devoted husband to my loving wife, Jamarla Bess, who is also an educator in GCPS, and a father to two incredible daughters, Jamira (21) and Carissa Joy (5).  As a parent, I have always wanted what is best for my children, and I will work tirelessly each day to ensure that each and every student has the best possible educational experience at Shiloh Middle School.

My background is rooted in education, leadership, and coaching.  During my tenure at Norcross High School for 13 years, I taught English language arts, coached boys’ varsity soccer, and served as the student advisement coordinator, 11 LA Course Team lead, and GCPS Summer School Language Arts Coordinator. As Assistant Principal at Duluth High School for six years, I served as Community School Director, Interim Athletic Director, GCPS Summer School Site Principal and supported Multilingual Learners, Language Arts, Fine Arts, and World Language Departments where my roles included: student discipline, STEAM, literacy, testing coordinator, and new teacher instructional coaching.

I firmly believe that each and every child can succeed, and we will actively implement proven, research-based instructional strategies each day to help enable our teachers to teach at their best and students to learn at their utmost.  My favorite quote is from Hellen Keller who said, "The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision."
